What You’ll Do

The job description for the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Nurse incorporates the Association of PeriOperative Nurse, Registered Nurses' Standards, Guidelines and Recommended Practices (AORN). The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse provides a crucial role in assessing patients before admission, and reports to the Clinical Director.

Accountabilities: (include, but are not limited to)

  • Conducts thorough assessments of patients scheduled for surgical or invasive procedures to evaluate their physical and emotional readiness.
  • Understands and interprets physicians' orders, reviews lab values. Checks accuracy of admission paperwork (history, consents, instructions, etc.)
  • Educate patients and their families on pre-op instructions, including what to expect with their upcoming procedure.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including documentation of assessments, care plans, and communication with other healthcare team members.
  • Review patients' medical histories, including pre-existing conditions, allergies, medications, and previous surgeries, to identify potential risks or complications
  • Assess and document patients' current medications, including dosage and frequency. Follows OSCNS ASC's protocols and procedures in regards to patients' medications and NPO status.
  • Ability to utilize the interpretation services.
  • Collaborates with the admin support staff on intake process as needed.
  • Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
  • Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
  • Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.
  • Others duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Who you are:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Previous work experience in admissions, clinic, hospital, or ambulatory surgery center setting, no less than one (1) year.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate professionally (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone)
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and Software
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies
  • Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
  • Understanding of electronic medical systems
  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties
  • Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts
  • Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Extremely reliable, patient and professional
  • Reacts calmly and effectively under stress
  • Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately
